FAQ
1. What should I bring to my trip to Italy?
A money belt is useful for storing cash and a small camera (and less vulnerable than bags to pickpockets). Since film is expensive, use a digital camera or bring your own film. Be sure to pack comfortable waking shoes and light clothing, a hat, and sunscreen. IF you are visiting any churches or the Vatican, remember that you are not allowed to wear shorts or tanks inside here: bring one set of comfortable but modest clothing.
2. How can I get around Italy?
Public transportation is very affordable. You can use a train to get from one city to another. Be sure to reserve seats so you won’t have to stand during long trips.
If you’d rather not take the train, you can take the slower but more scenic route, via bus. Tickets are available at kiosks. Rented cars, on the other hand, are ideal for trips to the countryside (they can be inconvenient in very congested cities, though).
3. Are hostels safe?
Hostels are very affordable alternatives for those on a tight budget. While they may not have the bells and whistles of a luxury hotel, the beds are clean and the bathrooms adequate, and you have lockers to store your valuables. Unfortunately they don’t accept reservations.
